On New Year’s Eve a young girl is sent out to sell matches after her abusive father is threatened by their landlord, Augustus, over unpaid rent. Unable to sell the matches the young girl begins lighting the matches for warmth, which create fantasies the girl lives through. Meanwhile Rosemarie, is courted by Augustus at a lavish New Year’s ball where she is exposed to the callous indifference of the upper class. While watching the young Match girl weakening Rosemarie must decide between a life of cruel luxury or impoverished humanity.

Based on the 1962 novel by Ken Kesey and later made famous by the film, “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” is a play about a rebellion led by patients in a mental institution against their cruel nurse. The play follows this group of patients as they attempt in various ways to rebel against their poor treatment in the institution, which leads to deliberate acts of cruelty being committed against them. A famous name in the world of literature and film, “One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest” exposes the mistreatment and abuse of mentally ill patients in institutions in the 20th century.
